Grilled chicken legs on an outdoor electric grill
Looking for something easy to grill on your outdoor electric grill that’s not burgers? Grilled chicken legs are a great option that’s quick and easy to cook. They come out super moist without much effort and they’re also a great way to season a new grill.
On a Weber Q2400 (that’s the larger Weber electric grill), I can generally cook about 10 grilled chicken legs, depending on how meaty they are. That’s usually the larger family pack from Whole Foods, around 2 1/2 to 3 pounds. PS – these are great to pick up especially when there’s a sale.

Grilled Chicken Legs Preparation and Grilling Tips
Honestly, I keep this super simple with a solid sprinkling of onion powder and garlic powder along with a good coating of Olive Oil Spray. You can also salt and pepper to your taste. Honestly, I skip it because I try to keep to a lower salt diet.
Don’t forget to preheat your grill until it’s nice and hot! For my Weber Q2400, I try to leave at least 10-15 minutes of preheat time and give the grill grates a quick scraping before adding any food.
How Long to Grill Chicken Legs
I usually heat my grill too high, mostly because it’s an electric grill and I want to make sure the grates retain as much heat as possible. You’ll need to open and flip the legs a few times.
To cook, I usually grill the chicken legs for about 20 minutes. Flip the legs every 5 minutes to ensure they’re cooked through and don’t burn.
For food safety, you should wait until the legs reach an internal temperature of 165°F before removing it from the grill.
What about BBQ Sauce?
Depending on how I plan to eat the chicken legs, I’ll coat them with a bottled BBQ sauce for the 3rd and 4th sides of grilling.
This becomes a personal preference thing because I also like them just plain grilled. It works out well when you’re cooking up a bunch to freeze and eat later!
